* Voluntary Testing of HIV/AIDS Held at Arjo Diddessa
The 29th World AIDS Day celebrated at the Head Office of Sugar Corporation, sugar factories and sugar development projects with various events.
At the event witnessed on December 1, 2016 at Head Office of the Corporation Representative of CEO of the Corporation and Deputy CEO of Strategic Support, Ato Bezabih Bezabih Gebreyes in his opening speech accentuated on tackling the pandemic.
HIV/AIDS Task Force Chairman Ato Zemedkun Tekle on his part said expansion of HIV/AIDS may hamper productivity of the agricultural sector in general and the sugar sub sector in particular. Let us make “Seeing Ethiopia Devoid of HIV/AIDS Hampering Its Development” our vision, he further went on saying.
A discussion point highlighting the occasion has been presented by Sugar Corporation HIV/AIDS Secretariat and Multi Sectoral Affairs Senior Officer Sister Tigst Alemu on which wide discussion was held.
On the occasion Sugar Corporation HIV/AIDS Secretariat and Multi Sectoral Affairs Team Leader Sister Kasech Shibeshi has introduced HIV/AIDS orphans who are getting support from the Corporation staff. Staffs of the Corporation are contributing money on monthly basis to help the children. Metehara Sugar Factory Music Band has made the event more colorful presenting various relevant songs.
On another development 504 employees of Arjo Diddessa Sugar Factory have taken voluntary counseling and testing of HIV/AIDS from October 26 to December 9, 2016, Factory`s Public Relation Office has disclosed.
The voluntary testing was jointly arranged by the Sugar Factory and Jimma-Arjo District Health Bureau in which many have participated as a result of strengthened peer group teaching carried out, it was learnt.
Employees of the Factory have marked World HIV/AIDS Day on December 1, 2016, the office has also disclosed.
